On Sunday 8th June, a group of 11 determined women known as Lisa's Ladies will be taking on the Hull 10K with pride, passion, and purpose. This isn't just a run for them - it's a tribute, a statement of solidarity and a celebration of strength in the face of loss and adversity.
Lisa's Ladies was founded by Hull 4 Heroes in memory of Lisa Bateman, a much-loved Army Medic who tragically took her own life in 2020 at just 34 years old. Lisa was known for her strength, her dedication to others, and her infectious spirit - the group carries her energy forward.
Formed to support women connected to the Armed Forces community – including veterans, spouses, family members, and carers – Lisa’s Ladies provides a safe, welcoming space to talk, share, and heal. Many of their members face challenges such as anxiety, bereavement, isolation, or the impact of service life on family dynamics. Together, they offer peer support, friendship, and the power of simply being there for one another.
They said;
"Taking on the Hull 10K together is our way of honouring Lisa’s legacy and continuing her mission of helping others. Among the 11 women running is Lisa’s own mum, Carole, a vital part of the group and an inspiration to us all. Carole’s strength, compassion, and courage embody everything Lisa’s Ladies stands for – and having her with us on the start line makes this event even more meaningful."
For some of them this will be their first 10K and for others it's another step on a personal journey for them. For all of them it is about raising awareness of the support women in the military community need - and deserve.
If you see them on the course, please give them a bit cheer. They will be wearing their Lisa's Ladies T-Shirts with pride, for Lisa.
