In January of 2025, Paul's brother Lee was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease at the age of 54.
The devastating disease, from which Leeds Rhinos star Rob Burrow also suffered, gradually strips away a person's ability to move, speak, eat, and breathe.
"Watching someone you love go through that is heartbreaking. But, through it all, Lee hasn't lost his humour, his kindness, or the light that makes him who he is. He's still my big brother. Still my hero."
So, Paul set himself a challenge to help Lee with his condition: he is running 1,200 miles and cycling 3,000 miles, all before the 10th of May 2026, when he will finish the challenge with the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon.
"It's my way of showing up for Lee when he needs it most. Every mile is for him."
Paul and Lee once did their own challenge together, taking part in the 22 push ups in 22 days challenge to raise awareness for PTSD. This was the first appearance of the Batman and Robin costumes, shown above.
"That day was filled with laughter and connection - a moment that still means so much to me."
The costumes returned for Lee's stag do in March 2025, which Paul describes as "a weekend overflowing with laughter, raw emotion, and incredible courage."
"Even after his diagnosis, Lee's spirit shone bright, surrounded by friends and love. His wedding to Emma was brought forward from August to March. That day was full of love, pride, and strength - a truly forgettable moment."
Paul has witnessed firsthand the emotional, physical, and financial toll that caring for an MND sufferer has. That is why he is taking part in the challenge; any fundraising will go directly to helping Lee and the family for mobility aids, home adjustments, specialist, or access to treatments.
"This challenge isn't just about running or cycling. It's about love. About fighting for someone you'd do anything for."
"MND may have taken so much from Lee, but it will never take who he truly is. Not his love. Not his spirit. Not the mark he's left on all of us. It can never have that."
