Martin’s running journey over the past year has been hugely transformative, and from taking up running on a quiet lunchtime in February 2024, he’s now a Marathon runner.
“Running has changed me completely. My breathing, endurance and focus have improved, and that’s filtered into every part of life, work, family and how I show up each day.”
Martin set off on his first run in 2024 and while it may have been difficult, it was a start. Each run afterwards helped to build confidence and progress.
“By 4th August 2024 I’d run and loved the York 10K in 56:44, and that’s when I started to think, maybe I am a runner. The following months were filled with early mornings, long runs, aching legs and quiet moments where I found focus.”
What followed, was a year of huge running milestones, many adventures, and throughout it all, raising thousands of pounds for a cause close to Martin's heart.
“Together we raised £3,075 towards almost £1 million for the Teenage Cancer Trust, helping support young people facing cancer.”
This cause means a lot to Martin, like many, his family has felt the impact of cancer and been supported by the incredible charity, Teenage Cancer Trust.
“Running for them gave every mile a deeper purpose.”
Each race brought lessons, and sharing those moments with his family and friends, often over a well-earned pizza, made each race unforgettable in its own right.
“Hearing my eldest son’s friends ask, “What’s your crazy Father doing now?” feels like the best compliment.”
Martin completed the 2025 Altra Yorkshire Marathon in sub-five hours, and crossing the finish line was a moment of pure joy.
“I ran with everything left, leapt across the finish, and staggered through the funnel, while looking at the official race time in disbelief.”
Run For All events are for participants of all ages and abilities, and anyone can share in that finish line feeling.
“If you think you could never do this, ask yourself a different question: How could I? Start small, stay consistent and keep moving. You might surprise yourself.”
