Tom is running this year's Yorkshire Marathon to raise money for Liam Critchett's Next Step. The charity is dedicated to supporting Liam's specialist spinal neurological physiotherapy.
Diagnosed with spinal cord cancer at age 11, Liam is a full-time wheelchair user, but has been making impressive progress through intensive physiotherapy, which allowed him to take his first unaided steps in thirteen years.
"Completing 26.2 miles is no easy task, but it's nothing compared to the obstacles Liam and others overcome in their life and through their recovery. My goal isn't just to finish the race, it's to raise money and awareness for this charity, which means so much to me."
Liam has undergone years of treatment, including chemotherapy, as well as multiple surgeries. However, he did unfortunately require a surgery earlier this year, which has set him back in his progress.
That's why Tom's efforts to fundraise for his friend are crucial in his journey to regain mobility.
"When I'm running the marathon, I want to channel the dedication that Liam has to his physio."
