Thousands of runners, spectators, and supporters packed the streets of York today as the Arla Protein York 10K delivered its biggest event yet. With the 10K race selling out ahead of race day and the York Mini and Junior races also reaching capacity, the city came together for a memorable celebration of running, fundraising, and community spirit.
Organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All with title sponsor Arla Protein, the event got underway at 09.30 as participants set off on a scenic route through the historic city. Taking in some of York’s most iconic landmarks, including Clifford’s Tower, York Minster, and the city’s medieval walls, runners were cheered on by thousands of spectators before crossing the finish line on Knavesmire Road.
The celebrations continued later in the day with the sold-out York Mini and Junior races, which gave hundreds of young runners the chance to experience the atmosphere of a major race-day event and follow in the footsteps of the day’s 10K participants.
While the event’s charitable impact remained at its heart, the Arla Protein York 10K also produced an impressive display of athletic talent, with runners of all abilities taking to the start line.
In the men’s race, Samuel Roberts claimed victory in a time of 00:30:39. Dan Garbutt finished second in 00:31:00, while Joe Sagar secured third place with a time of 00:31:02.
In the women’s race, Hannah Hobbs took the top spot in 00:34:54. Sarah Hunter finished second in 00:36:37, while Josie Rawes completed the podium with a time of 00:36:42.
Beyond the sporting achievements, the event is set to make a significant difference to charities across Yorkshire and beyond. Thousands of participants have been raising vital funds for causes close to their hearts, either through a charity of their choice or one of the event's official charity partners: Family Fund, Jane Tomlinson Appeal, RSPCA, St Leonard's Hospice, The Hut York, York Against Cancer, York Carers Centre, York City Foundation, York Down Syndrome Support Group and Mind York.
Race day also highlighted the strength of York's community spirit, with volunteers, local running clubs, schools, residents and supporters turning out in force to encourage participants from start to finish. Their enthusiasm created an electric atmosphere across the city and helped make this record-breaking edition of the Arla Protein York 10K a day to remember.
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All, said: "What an incredible day for York and everyone involved in this year's Arla Protein York 10K. As our biggest York 10K yet, it has been fantastic to see thousands of runners, spectators, volunteers and supporters come together to be part of such a special occasion.
The atmosphere across the city has been outstanding, and whether participants were chasing a personal best, taking on their first 10K, enjoying the Mini and Junior races or fundraising for a cause close to their heart, every person played a part in making the day such a success.
A huge thank you to our volunteers, staff, local residents, businesses and title sponsor, Arla Protein, whose support helps us deliver an event that inspires people to be active while raising vital funds for charities and communities."
Stuart Ibberson, Arla brand director, comments: "What a fantastic day for York. It has been incredible to see thousands of people come together to take part, volunteer, cheer from the sidelines, and support such a wide range of worthy causes.
