Former Sheffield Wednesday and England star Carlton Palmer is swapping the football pitch for the streets of Sheffield this September as he prepares to take on the Sheffield 10K alongside his wife Lucy.
With less than two months to go until the popular event on Sunday 27th September, organisers are encouraging runners to secure their place and join one of Sheffield’s biggest celebrations of fitness, fundraising and community.
Carlton and Lucy will be among thousands of participants lining up on the start line, having spent months training together on the trails and the hills of the Peak District. The couple are no strangers to fundraising challenges, having helped raise thousands of pounds for charitable causes over the years.
This year, they will be running as part of a team supporting Weston Park Cancer Charity’s ‘See it. Treat it.' appeal, which aims to raise £1.85 million for a state-of-the-art MRI simulator. The specialist equipment will enable clinicians to create highly detailed images, helping deliver more precise and targeted cancer treatment for patients across the region.
Carlton and Lucy have a long-standing connection with the charity, having previously supported Cavendish Cancer Care before its merger with Weston Park Cancer Charity in 2025.
While the husband-and-wife duo will cross the same start line, they have very different plans for race day.
Carlton has his sights set on achieving a strong finishing time, while Lucy will be embracing the social side of the event, running alongside friends and enjoying the atmosphere from start to finish.
Their contrasting approaches perfectly capture what the Sheffield 10K is all about: welcoming everyone from seasoned runners chasing a personal best to first-time participants, charity fundraisers and groups of friends taking on the challenge together.
The Sheffield 10K is organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All, with thousands of pounds raised each year for local and national charities through its events. With entries continuing to sell fast, organisers are urging anyone considering taking part to sign up soon to avoid missing out.
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All commented, “We’re delighted to welcome Carlton and Lucy to this year’s Sheffield 10K. Carlton is a true Sheffield sporting icon, and it’s fantastic to see them both taking on the challenge while supporting such an important cause.
“The Sheffield 10K is about bringing people together, whether you’re chasing a personal best, fundraising for charity or taking part with friends and family. With entries continuing to sell quickly, we’d encourage anyone thinking of joining us to secure their place soon and be part of a fantastic day for the city.”
Carlton Palmer added: “The Sheffield 10K is a fantastic event that brings people together, whatever their reason for taking part. Whether you’re chasing a personal best, running for a cause close to your heart, or simply enjoying the experience with friends and family, it’s an incredible day.
Lucy and I are really looking forward to being part of it this year, supporting Weston Park Cancer Charity and helping raise awareness of the amazing work they’re doing. We can’t wait to join everyone on the start line in September.”
