On Sunday 18th October, the Altra Yorkshire Marathon Festival brought together thousands of runners in York, each taking on a challenge for their own unique reason. Following another hugely successful event, discounted entries for the 2027 Altra Yorkshire Marathon are now available for one week only.
More than 15,000 people signed up to take part across the Festival, making it the biggest event in its history. The record-breaking participation reflects the enduring appeal of the scenic course, electric atmosphere and the support of York's famously enthusiastic crowds.
The event welcomed runners of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, from first-time participants and wheelchair athletes to experienced marathoners, relay teams and those chasing personal bests. Among them was Olivia, who took on the marathon in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest woman to complete a marathon wearing Crocs. Chris and Scott also used the event as the stage for their own Guinness World Record attempt joggling, while Team Tammi ran in support of Sheffield Hospitals Charity following their own personal experience of loss. Meanwhile, Tim turned heads around the course by tackling the 26.2-mile challenge dressed as a giant pair of scissors for the Little Princess Trust.
Alongside these extraordinary stories, thousands more participants ran in memory of loved ones, to achieve personal goals, or to raise vital funds for causes close to their hearts. Many supported the event's official partner charities, including Children with Cancer UK, Dementia Forward, Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Macmillan Cancer Support, Mind York, St Leonard's Hospice, The Island, York Foodbank and Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Collectively, runners raised thousands of pounds for charitable causes, ensuring the impact of the Altra Yorkshire Marathon Festival stretches far beyond race day and delivers lasting benefits to communities across Yorkshire and beyond.
With the event set to return next year, organisers Jane Tomlinson's Run For All are encouraging prospective participants to secure their place early. Discounted entries for the 2027 Altra Yorkshire Marathon are available for one week only, offering runners the chance to be part of one of the UK's most popular marathon events at the best possible price.
Operations Director at Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All commented: "This year's Altra Yorkshire Marathon Festival was our biggest yet, with more than 15,000 participants taking to the streets of York and creating an incredible atmosphere across the city. The support from local communities, volunteers and spectators once again helped make the event a truly special occasion."
"What makes this event so unique is the number of inspiring stories behind every runner. Whether participants were chasing a personal best, taking on their first challenge, attempting a world record, running in memory of a loved one or raising money for charity, each person had their own reason for crossing the start line."
"We're particularly proud of the positive impact the Festival has beyond race day. Collectively, participants have raised thousands of pounds for charities and good causes, helping to make a real difference to communities both locally and further afield."
"We're already looking forward to welcoming runners back in 2027, and with discounted entries available for one week only, now is the perfect opportunity for people to secure their place and be part of another unforgettable Altra Yorkshire Marathon Festival."
