Thousands of runners, spectators and volunteers came together this morning for the return of the Bury BID 10K and Mini and Junior events, creating a fantastic atmosphere across the town.
Organised by Jane Tomlinson's Run For All in partnership with Bury Council and title sponsor Bury BID, the event once again welcomed participants of all ages and abilities for a day of running, fundraising and community spirit.
Starting and finishing outside The Rock Shopping Centre, runners took on the popular 10K route, heading through Tottington and along Bury Road before joining the scenic Kirklees Trail and making their way back towards the town centre. From experienced club runners chasing fast times to first-time participants achieving personal goals, the event showcased the very best of the local running community.
The day also featured an impressive competitive element, with some of the region's leading athletes battling for top honours.
In the men's race, Luke Harrison claimed victory in a time of 00:32:05. Luke Edwards finished second in 00:32:51, while Kouros Driscoll secured third place with a time of 00:34:16.
In the women's race, Sophie Whittaker crossed the finish line first in an impressive 00:37:52. Alice Bernstein took second place in 00:40:22, followed by Frankie Harrington, who completed the course in 00:41:15.
Among the thousands taking part was Dan, whose inspiring journey captured the spirit of the event. After suffering an almost fatal brain haemorrhage and stroke caused by a ruptured AVM, Dan has worked tirelessly through rehabilitation and regular physical activity to rebuild this strength, confidence and independence.
Today marked a significant milestone in his recovery as he successfully completed the Bury BID 10K. In recognition of his incredible achievement and determination, Dan was also given the honour of officially starting the race, setting participants on their way before taking on the challenge himself.
Beyond the achievements on the course, the event also provided an important opportunity to support good causes. Thousands of pounds were raised for charities both local and national, helping to make a meaningful difference to communities across the region and beyond.
The event's inclusive atmosphere continued throughout the day with the Mini and Junior races, giving hundreds of young runners aged 3 to 14 the chance to be part of the occasion.
Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All, said: "A huge congratulations to everyone who took part in the Bury BID 10K and Mini and Junior events today.
"It was fantastic to see so many people come together to enjoy a day of running, fundraising and community spirit. Whether participants were chasing a personal best, taking on their first event or raising money for a cause close to their heart, every runner should be incredibly proud of their achievement.
"We would also like to thank our volunteers, partners, sponsors and supporters, whose enthusiasm and commitment helped make the event such a success."
Councillor Tamoor Tariq, Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Health and Public Service Reform at Bury Council, said: "It was fantastic to see thousands of people coming together once again for the Bury BID 10K and Mini and Junior events. The atmosphere throughout the day was incredible, with runners, volunteers, spectators and supporters all playing their part in making the event such a success.
"Congratulations to everyone who took part, from those achieving personal bests and first-time runners crossing the finish line, to the hundreds of young people who took part in the Mini and Junior races. I'd also like to extend a huge thank you to the volunteers whose hard work, enthusiasm and commitment helped deliver the event and ensured participants had such a positive experience throughout the day.
"Events like this showcase the very best of Bury, bringing our communities together, promoting healthy and active lifestyles, and raising vital funds for charities. We are proud to support an event that has become such an important part of our borough's sporting calendar."
