Katie Chelin-Pearson is taking on the York 10K in support of P.A.U.L for Brain Recovery after surviving a life-threatening ruptured brain aneurysm in 2023 – an experience she says ‘profoundly impacted my life in ways most people may never fully understand.’
What followed was a long and challenging recovery that demanded patience, courage and extraordinary resilience. Day by day, step by step, Katie worked tirelessly to rebuild not only her physical strength, but also her mental and emotional wellbeing.
Faced with a life-changing diagnosis and an uncertain future, Katie refused to let her condition define her. While many would have struggled to find a way forward, she remained determined to regain control of her life and reconnect with the person she was before that devastating night.
Over the past two years, Katie has navigated a rollercoaster of emotions and personal challenges. Through it all, she discovered a strength she never knew she had.
‘I refused to become a prisoner to my condition,’ she said.
Now, Katie is taking on the York 10K not simply to cross the finish line, but to celebrate how far she has come and everything she continues to overcome every day.
By fundraising for P.A.U.L For Brain Recovery, Katie hopes to give back to the people, research and support services that help individuals and families facing similar battles.
Every mile she runs carries a deeper meaning – for those in recovery, for loved one supporting them, and for the future of brain injury research, treatment and care.
Although Katie remains under the care of her surgeon and medical team, she is determined to show what is possible after a brain injury.
Through her York 10K challenge, she hopes to inspire others and prove that while a brain injury can change your life, it does not define who you are.
