Emma is preparing to run the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in memory of her beautiful son, Daniel, who was tragically lost to suicide at just 15 years old after struggling under the pressure of his GCSEs.
Talking about this challenge, Emma said:
“Running has always been part of my life, but since losing Daniel, it has taken on a completely different meaning.”
She continues:
“Now I run not only to remember him, but also to support my own mental health and find strength during the hardest moments.”
For Emma, every step she takes at the Leeds Marathon will carry Daniel with her – his name, his smile, and the life he should still be living.
“Running has become my way of coping,” she says. “It’s a way to keep going when everything inside me wants to stop. It helps me hold on, even on the hardest days.”
Emma is taking on this challenge to raise money for Team Daniel, so they can continue the work started in his name – supporting young people, opening vital conversations, and raising awareness of suicide in children.
As Emma says:
“No child should ever feel that life is too heavy to carry, and no family should have to live with this heartbreak.”
This run is for Daniel.
For the 15 years the family had.
And for all the years they lost.
