At this year’s Ramathon in Derby, Jo and Lucy won’t just be taking part – they’ll be racing each other. But this isn’t an ordinary rivalry. It’s the culmination of a year-long challenge that has already taken them across Europe… dressed in horse costumes.
Throughout 2025/26, Jo and Lucy have been chasing each other from start line to finish line as part of the SuperHalfs series. Their journey includes races in Lisbon, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen, Cardiff and Valencia, as well as additional events such as the Barcelona Half Marathon, the Snowdonia Half, and the Great North Run.
Over the course of the year, they will have completed an incredible 10 races in just 12 months.
What makes their challenge truly unique is the twist they’ve added. At every race, the pair run in full horse outfits and record their finishing times. These times are accumulated over the series, much like the general classification in the Tour de France.
Everything will come to a head at the final race in Cardiff. The runner who is leading overall will start when the gun goes, while the other will set off later, delayed by the exact time gap between them. The result? A dramatic, head-to-head chase to the finish line to decide the winner of the #SuperHalfsChase.
But this challenge is about much more than friendly competition. Jo and Lucy are using their journey to raise money for two charities close to their hearts: Cavell and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
Jo chose Cavell because, as a nurse, he has seen first-hand how quickly life can change for healthcare professionals, and how vital support can be behind the scenes. Cavell exists to support those who spend their lives caring for others – something that resonates deeply with both Jo and Lucy.
They have also chosen Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, which supports children with life-limiting conditions and their families, helping them create precious memories while providing care, love and comfort in the most difficult times.
Supporters can get involved by backing #TeamJo or #TeamLucy, with all money raised going directly to these two causes.
Jo and Lucy explain: “We’re doing this because we believe no one should have to face those moments alone.”
