John is preparing to take on the Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon in support of the British Heart Foundation, inspired by a cause that is deeply personal to him.
Eight years ago, John lost his dad to a heart attack, a loss that has remained with him ever since. More recently, in March 2026, his family experienced further heartbreak when his father-in-law also passed away following a heart attack.
Reflecting on these losses, John said: "Losing two people I love to heart disease has made me realise just how important research, awareness, prevention and support are in the fight against heart and circulatory diseases."
While the half marathon presents a significant personal challenge, John wanted to use the opportunity to make a difference and support others affected by heart disease.
He said: "I am running in memory of my dad and my father-in-law, and to honour the lives they lived and the impact they had on our family."
Every mile John runs will be dedicated to their memory, while every donation will help the British Heart Foundation continue its vital work funding life-saving research and supporting people living with heart and circulatory conditions.
Although he knows there will be tough moments throughout training and on race day, John says his motivation is clear.
"Remembering why I'm doing this will keep me going. If I can raise money and awareness and help prevent other families from experiencing the same heartbreak, then every step will be worth it."
