Perrys Bury Aims to Fund Next Community Defibrillator Through Bury 10K

Each year, David and his colleagues at Perrys Bury Vauxhall choose a charity or local cause to support through the Bury 10K. This year, the team will be running to raise funds for Restart the Heart, a charity dedicated to saving lives through CPR education and the installation of community defibrillators.

The partnership began when Sarah from Restart the Heart approached David. As a long-standing customer of Perrys Bury Vauxhall, Sarah knew Andy Young well.

Andy was a much-loved member of the Perrys team and had worked at the dealership for many years as a Motability Specialist. In his role, he supported some of the company's most vulnerable customers, providing exceptional care and customer service to those who needed it most.

Tragically, Andy passed away in May 2025 following a heart-related incident while on holiday.

Reflecting on the loss, David said: "Andy's passing left a huge gap in our team and in the lives of his family and friends.’

Inspired by Andy's memory, the team chose to support Restart the Heart and its mission to educate communities in CPR and the use of defibrillators, while raising funds to install and maintain life-saving equipment across the Borough of Bury, North Manchester and parts of Lancashire.

Explaining the decision, David said: "Restart the Heart is a non-profit charity and Sarah volunteers her time to support an incredible cause. As soon as I learned more about the charity and the impact it has, I knew we wanted to do everything we could to support it."

So far, 8 members of staff from Perrys Bury Vauxhall and Peugeot have signed up to take part in the Bury 10K, helping to raise funds towards the installation of another community defibrillator.

The team understands the scale of the challenge. It costs around £2,500 to install and plus further maintenance costs for replacement batteries and pads every 2-3 years. However, that has only strengthened their determination to support Sarah's work. Restart the Heart has already helped place its 51st defibrillator, providing vital access to life-saving equipment across the region.

The runners represent a wide range of abilities, from experienced athletes to those taking on their very first 10K. On race day, they will be cheered on by colleagues, friends and family members from across the local community.

David is now encouraging local people to get behind the fundraising effort and help Restart the Heart achieve its vision of placing life-saving equipment within 500 metres of every home, school and business, while ensuring more people have the knowledge and confidence to act in an emergency.

"Every defibrillator installed has the potential to save a life," said David. "By supporting Restart the Heart, we're helping to make our communities safer and better prepared when every second counts."
