Rising Stars Youth Club to run alongside Abubakr 

A team from Rising Stars Youth Club will be running the Coventry Half Marathon with Abubakar, a wheelchair-bound member of the youth club. 

The goal is to complete the half marathon together as a team in order to challenge stereotypes around disability, while also raising much-needed funds to create a better environment for all at Rising Stars Youth Club. 

Rising Stars- Youth & Commitment Group are based in the Greater Foleshill area of Coventry and they are on a mission to provide social, sporting & recreational activities and events for the community that others take for granted.

The group is made up of volunteers from the local community.

"Our aim is to provide a safe engaging and interactive environment for youths and space they can come to, to acquire new skills, do activities, get motivated, inspired, and build positive meaningful relationships with fellow youths in their local community. The club is open to young people from all backgrounds between 8 and 16 years old."

Kadeer, a volunteer youth worker spoke to us ahead of the challenge, "Abubakar has grown up with RS, he has witnessed every challenge and expedition we have done over the years, but has merely listened on.

This is about our community putting this much-loved individual at the centre of one of our challenges but it's also about improving his own physical and mental health. 

Fundraising will be used to support the extension of community provision at Lote Tree School based in Foleshill to further provide opportunities for the local people to participate in social activities."
