Tim is preparing to take on the Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon in support of Young Lives vs Cancer, a charity that has become incredibly important to his family since his youngest son, Theo, was diagnosed with leukaemia.
In March 2025, Theo, then aged 11, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL), turning life upside down for his family.
He said: "Theo went from being the most active and energetic young boy to one who had to contend with a gruelling treatment plan that would last more than two years."
Now that Theo is over half way through his treatment, Tim has decided to turn his focus to fundraising. Although he does not consider himself a runner, he will take on the Ipswich Half Marathon as part of his preparation for a marathon next year, giving everything he has to raise money for a cause that has supported families like his.
Tim said: "I'm doing this not just for Theo, but for all of us. Cancer has affected our whole family deeply. Everyone has made sacrifices, but together we've helped Theo through it."
Through his family's experience, Tim has seen first-hand how a cancer diagnosis affects far more than a child's health.
"When a child is diagnosed with cancer, everything changes," he said. "Playtime stops, independence is taken away, confidence is knocked, years of education can be missed, and careers can be put on hold just as they're beginning.”
He added: "The impact of cancer on young lives is more than medical. It's something that can be felt by entire families.”
The challenge holds even greater significance because Theo is due to complete his two-year treatment plan just three days before Tim takes on his marathon in April 2027.
For Tim, crossing the finish line will be a celebration of Theo's strength and resilience throughout treatment, while also raising vital funds to support other children, young people and families facing similarly life-changing circumstances.
By fundraising for Young Lives vs Cancer, Tim hopes to help ensure that more families have access to the practical and emotional support they need during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
