This year, York Foodbank is bringing a unique team to the Altra Yorkshire Marathon, with its No One Left Behind relay team uniting runners from each of the six churches that host the charity's weekly foodbank sessions.
Six runners, six churches and one shared goal: helping to build a city where nobody is left behind.
The relay team takes its name from No One Left Behind, a city-wide initiative that brings together churches, charities and communities across York to tackle poverty and create lasting change over the next decade.
Since 2012, York Foodbank has supported people facing hunger and hardship across the city, providing emergency food, practical support and access to specialist advice. This vital work is made possible through the generosity of local schools, businesses, churches and individuals, alongside a dedicated team of volunteers who ensure everyone is welcomed with compassion and dignity.
While emergency food provision remains a crucial part of its work, York Foodbank's vision reaches far beyond that. The charity is committed to helping people build greater stability, hope and independence, while working towards a future where food banks are no longer needed.
Alongside the relay team, a number of individual runners will also be taking on the full marathon in support of York Foodbank. Every mile completed and every pound raised will help the charity continue supporting local people in crisis while working towards a York where no one is left behind.
